Step 1
Clinical Examination
The first appointment is a full clinical examination, including assessment of the teeth, gums, occlusion, and soft tissues. Dental imaging is taken where clinically indicated.
International Patients
Dr. Unan receives patients from outside Turkey. This page describes how the process works — from initial contact before travelling through to the clinical appointment and follow-up arrangements.
This page is intended for patients based outside Turkey who are considering dental treatment here. It covers what to expect at each stage of the process and the practical arrangements involved.
Consultations and all written correspondence are available in English and Turkish. Patients are not required to speak Turkish at any point during their care.
Treatment decisions follow the same clinical process applied to all patients: a thorough examination, a documented treatment plan, and written consent before any procedure begins.
The consultation, written treatment plan, consent documentation, and clinical correspondence are all available in English. No interpreter is required.
The practice is located in Istanbul, Turkey. Istanbul is served by two international airports with regular connections to major cities across Europe, the Middle East, and beyond.
International patients receive the same clinical standards, documentation practices, and regulatory protections as patients based in Turkey.
Patients are encouraged to make contact by email before booking travel. Sending existing dental records or imaging in advance allows a preliminary review to take place and ensures that the first in-person appointment is as productive as possible.
Panoramic X-rays, periapical films, or other dental imaging can be submitted by email ahead of your visit. Recent records (taken within the last twelve months) are most useful for pre-arrival review.
Where existing records are of sufficient diagnostic quality, a preliminary written assessment can be provided before your arrival. This assessment is indicative and does not replace a clinical examination.
Indicative cost estimates can be provided in writing prior to travel for discussion purposes. A confirmed cost estimate forms part of the written treatment plan, which is prepared after the in-person examination.
Once a travel window is confirmed, appointments can be scheduled around it. For multi-session treatment, an indicative sequence and timeline is included in the written plan so that travel can be arranged accordingly.
The first appointment follows the standard clinical intake process. No prior treatment is assumed, and care does not begin until the examination is complete and the patient has reviewed the written treatment plan.
Step 1
The first appointment is a full clinical examination, including assessment of the teeth, gums, occlusion, and soft tissues. Dental imaging is taken where clinically indicated.
Step 2
Clinical findings are discussed with the patient during the same appointment. Where multiple treatment options exist, each is explained in terms of procedure, materials, and indicative timelines.
Step 3
A written plan is prepared setting out the proposed procedures, materials, sequence of appointments, and itemised cost estimate. A copy is provided to the patient before any clinical work begins.
No procedure begins without a written treatment plan reviewed by the patient and documented consent. This applies to all patients, regardless of how they arranged their visit.
The treatment plan includes the proposed procedures, the materials to be used, indicative session durations and intervals, and an itemised cost estimate. Patients are given time to review the plan before any decision is made.
Written consent is obtained before each procedure. The consent process includes an explanation of the clinical rationale, procedure steps, material risks, and available alternatives. Consent documentation is provided in English upon request.
The treatment plan is issued in writing before any procedure is scheduled. Patients may take time to review it and ask questions before confirming they wish to proceed.
Consent forms and clinical documentation for international patients are available in English. Patients are not required to sign documents in a language they do not understand.
Patients may request a copy of their clinical records, imaging, and treatment documentation. This is particularly relevant for patients whose ongoing care will be continued by a dentist in their home country.
Accommodation and transportation are not arranged by the practice. The information below is provided for orientation purposes only.
Istanbul is a large city with a wide range of accommodation options at varying price points. The practice address is accessible by public transport as well as taxi. Specific address details and directions are available on the Contact page.
For patients planning treatment across multiple days, the written treatment plan includes the expected appointment schedule so that accommodation can be arranged accordingly. Where appointments are spread over several days, this is noted in the plan.
The number of days required depends on the treatment. Some procedures are completed in a single appointment. Others, such as implants or multi-unit restorations, require multiple sessions over several days or weeks. The written treatment plan will include indicative timelines to assist with planning.
The following information applies specifically to patients travelling from abroad for dental treatment. Please review these points before your appointment.
Please disclose any systemic medical conditions, current medications, known allergies, or prior adverse reactions to dental materials or anaesthetics. This information is required before treatment begins and affects clinical planning.
Some procedures require a recovery period before long-distance travel is appropriate. This is particularly relevant following oral surgery, implant placement, or bone grafting. Your treating clinician will advise you at the time of treatment. Plan your return travel with this in mind.
Patients who receive multi-stage treatment in Istanbul may require follow-up by a local dentist after returning home. Clinical records and treatment documentation can be provided in a format suitable for handover to a practitioner in your home country.
International health insurance claims are not processed directly. Patients requiring reimbursement documentation should make this known at the time of booking. Itemised invoices and clinical summaries can be provided for insurance purposes.
Contact details are provided at the time of booking. In the event of a post-procedural concern during your stay in Istanbul, patients are advised to contact us directly before seeking other medical assistance where possible.
As with all dental procedures, clinical outcomes cannot be guaranteed in advance. Treatment options and their clinical basis are explained fully during the consultation, including realistic expectations, procedure-specific risks, and alternatives.
To send existing dental records for review, ask a question before travelling, or arrange an appointment, contact the practice by email or phone.
All enquiries from prospective international patients are handled in English. A full contact form and address details are available on the Contact page.
